About

Employment

4 August 2003

I started my new job today, after finishing my previous job on Friday. The people all seem nice enough, and the office is cool and quiet. I spent a lot of today going through the usual strange first day stuff, so I’m looking forward to being able to get my teeth into some real work.

    what happened?

who am i going to pester with pointless questions now!
  2. § Jesse: Cool is the word of the day ;) I ended up making it over to England a couple weeks ago and now I just want to go back to my AC comfort in Canada... heh.

Umm real work.. you getting that ’new guy’ stare?
  3. § Drew: Paul - damn, I changed jobs just to avoid your questions! ;-)
Seriously, I’m glad you found me.

Jesse - tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day on record (or some-such) in UK. This week they have placed speed restrictions on the trains, as the tracks are literally softening.
  4. § Jesse: hehe... ya I heard that but I don’t really understand it. I mean the sun and the temp is a lot hotter across North America but then again our trains aren’t generally going that fast on normal tracks ;)

Tube smells though. I am down in London till friday AM.
  5. § Drew: The tube is gross this time of year, and is to be avoided at all costs. Whereabouts in London are you? email me.
  6. § Jesse: Think I did email you ;) and I am near Tower Hill at the moment.
  7. § attackmonkey: Another new one? Obviously the lure of the dotcom chair was to much to resist........

    :)

About Drew McLellan

Photo of Drew McLellan

Drew McLellan has been hacking on the web since around 1996 following an unfortunate incident with a margarine tub. Since then he’s spread himself between both front- and back-end development projects, and now is Director and Senior Web Developer at edgeofmyseat.com in Maidenhead, UK (GEO: 51.5217, -0.7177). Prior to this, Drew was a Web Developer for Yahoo!, and before that primarily worked as a technical lead within design and branding agencies for clients such as Nissan, Goodyear Dunlop, Siemens/Bosch, Cadburys, ICI Dulux and Virgin.net. Somewhere along the way, Drew managed to get himself embroiled with Dreamweaver and was made an early Macromedia Evangelist for that product. This lead to book deals, public appearances, fame, glory, and his eventual downfall.

Picking himself up again, Drew is now a strong advocate for best practises, and stood as Group Lead for The Web Standards Project 2006-08. He has had articles published by A List Apart, Adobe, and O’Reilly Media’s XML.com, mostly due to mistaken identity. Drew is a proponent of the lower-case semantic web, and is currently expending energies in the direction of the microformats movement, with particular interests in making parsers an off-the-shelf commodity and developing simple UI conventions. He writes here at all in the head and, with a little help from his friends, at 24 ways.
